The world’s largest food and beverage fair opened its doors on Saturday in Cologne for the 32nd time. Running through October 9, Cologne’s international trade fair center Kölnmesse is hosting 6,777 suppliers from 98 countries.
The exhibitors present their range of products and services to trade visitors from more than 180 countries in one of 10 specialized segments. They are: 1) Bread & Bakery, Hot Beverages, 2) Chilled & Fresh Foods, 3) Dairy, 4) Drinks, 5) Fine Food, 6) Foodservice, 7) Frozen Food, 8) Meat, 9) Organic and 10) RetailTec.
For 2013, Anuga organizers have identified 10 trend topics are highlighted throughout the 10 segments. They are: 1) Finger Food 2) Gourmet Products & Regional Specialties, 3) Halal Food, 4) Health & Functional Food, 5) Ingredients, 6) Kosher Products, 7) Organic Products, 8) Private Label, 9) Vegetarian Products and – new for 2013 – 10) Products Based on Fair Trade.
taste13 – the top innovations at Anuga
The trade fair focuses on new products, innovative trends and future-oriented concepts. Within the fair is the special exhibit “taste13,” which serves an important role as a trend barometer for the buyers and a source of momentum for the global food business. Here, the top new products at Anuga 2013, which have been selected by a panel of trade journalists, are on display. A total of more than 500 companies, representing more than 1,200 concepts, applied to take part in the special show. The best products are showcased in an attractive exhibition in the northern section of the Kölnmesse Boulevard.
The panel members selected a total of 53 products and concepts that were impressive by virtue of their underlying ideas, innovative character and creative implementation. The items were taken from all 10 of Anuga’s specialized trade shows. In addition to evaluating the quality and originality of the entries, the panel members took into account the criteria of packaging use, user-friendliness, recipe and, of course, visual appeal.
